The Green Arowana - Diary

Welcome to my  Green Arowana site. I am here to share with you my experience in keeping my Arowana.

Dec 2004

Just move in to his new 4' tank. Look at its size compared to the water pump. Its feeding regime is only crickets. I feed him once a day. He swims happily everyday in this tank alone. He is still quite timid at this time. Always trying to avoid people.

PICT0752.JPG (743433 bytes)Don't know why its body has started turning pink. Is it because of too much cricket? Let time decides on his coloration. The tail however has becoming more yellow. The gill has becoming more purple. I am not sure whether mine is really green. People said, the green arowana will never look green like grass. It will somehow show a little bit green on its scales. Just let the time show its true coloration.

PICT0870.JPG (711047 bytes)PICT0858.JPG (815252 bytes)In Feb 05, my digital camera broke down and sent for repair. It was still under warranty. I had to go through a lengthy process to get it replaced. It took all in 4 months. Well, this is him again. Has grown up so much. Its feeding regime has also change since then. It is now feeding more on little fish and of course cricket is still its favourite. If you look closely now, you will see it has started developing some dark spots on it s back. It is not common for green arowana to have this. Yes, you are still looking at the same one in Dec 2004. I don't have money to get myself a new one.

Jun 2005
PICT0925.JPG (682127 bytes)The 2nd row scales from top, has started to show its green. The top part of the body is still dark. X back maybe. But I have never heard anything about X back green. Perhaps this is the first of its kind.

July 2005
PICT1029.JPG (864446 bytes)Somehow he is turning purple again. However, the green scales can still be seen at the top two layers. The back is still dark colour. Let's see what he will turn out next.

Sorry, no pictures between July to November. I lost my digital camera. Anyway, here he is again. He is now a bigger boy. His length is now about 17". He had an accident recently. He jumped out of the tank while I was cleaning it. My fault  actually. Check out photo no 5, you can see his injury there, close to his dorsal. He lost his appetite for few days. Now he is back to normal again. His feeding regime has change dramatically. He feeds more on crickets and lizards. From time to time, he also gets frozen prawn.

Thanks for visiting. Don't forget to sign my guest book.
